How to Make Calls on Your WearOS Watch
Your WearOS watch can make and receive calls using its built-in speaker and microphone. Bluetooth-only models route calls through your phone, while LTE models can make calls independently with a cellular plan.
Making Calls
Several methods let you dial out from your wrist.
-
Voice Command: Say
Hey Google, call [contact name]for hands-free dialing. This works whether your phone is nearby or you're usingLTEindependently. -
Contacts App: Open the
Contactsapp on your watch, scroll to find the person you want to call, and tap their entry to dial. -
Recent Calls: Open the
Phoneapp to see your call history. Tap any recent call to redial that number. -
Dialer: Use the keypad in the
Phoneapp to dial numbers directly. Useful for calling businesses or numbers not in your contacts.
Answering and Declining Calls
Handle incoming calls with simple gestures.
-
Answering: When a call comes in, swipe right on the notification or tap the green phone icon. Call audio plays through your watch speaker or connected
Bluetoothearbuds. -
Declining: Swipe left or tap the red phone icon to decline. The caller typically goes to voicemail.
-
Silencing: Tap the mute option to silence the ringer without declining. The caller continues ringing on their end while your watch stays quiet.
LTE vs Bluetooth Models
Your watch model determines when calls work.
-
LTE Models: With an active cellular plan, make and receive calls without your phone nearby. Works during runs, when you leave your phone at home, or in emergencies. Requires a carrier plan (typically $5-10/month additional).
-
Bluetooth-Only Models: Calls route through your phone's connection. Your phone must be nearby (within
Bluetoothrange, roughly 30 feet) and connected for calls to work. No additional carrier fees required.
Call Quality Tips
Optimize your calling experience.
-
Quiet Environment: Watch speakers and microphones work best in quiet settings. Background noise makes conversations difficult on both ends.
-
Bluetooth Earbuds: Connect
Bluetoothearbuds to your watch for better audio quality and privacy. Pairs directly with the watch, not through your phone. -
Short Calls: Watch calling works well for quick conversations. Extended calls are more comfortable on your phone or with earbuds.
Emergency Calls
LTE watches can make emergency calls (911) even without an active plan in most regions. Bluetooth-only watches need phone connection for all calls including emergencies.
