Troubleshooting Gemini on WearOS

Common Gemini issues and how to fix them. Start with quick fixes before trying more involved solutions.


Quick Fixes (Try First)

These simple steps resolve most Gemini issues.

  • Restart Watch: Power off completely, wait 30 seconds, power back on. This fixes most temporary glitches.

  • Check Internet: Ensure your watch has WiFi or LTE connection. Most Gemini features require internet.

  • Check Bluetooth: Verify your watch is connected to your phone via Bluetooth in the Watch app.

  • Update Apps: On your phone, update the Gemini app, Google app, and Watch app from Play Store.


Commands Not Working

When Gemini doesn't respond or misunderstands commands.

  • Speak Clearly: Speak at a normal pace toward your watch. Avoid mumbling or speaking too fast.

  • Reduce Noise: Move to a quieter environment. Background noise significantly affects recognition.

  • Try Simpler Commands: Start with Set a timer for 1 minute to test basic functionality before complex commands.

  • Check Permissions: On your watch, go to Settings Apps Google Permissions and ensure microphone is enabled.


Connection Issues

When Gemini can't connect to Google services.

  • Phone Connection: Ensure your phone is nearby with Bluetooth enabled and the Watch app running.

  • WiFi Priority: Gemini works better on WiFi than through phone relay. Connect your watch to WiFi when possible.

  • Account Sync: On your watch, go to Settings Google Accounts and verify your account is synced.

  • Network Test: Try opening another internet-dependent app on your watch to verify general connectivity.


Gemini Not Launching

When pressing the button or saying Hey Google doesn't activate Gemini.

  • Check Default Assistant: On your phone, verify Gemini is set as default in Google app Settings Digital Assistant.

  • Enable Hey Google: On your watch, go to Settings Google Digital assistant ensure Hey Google is enabled.

  • Button Assignment: Go to Settings Buttons and verify the assistant button triggers Digital Assistant.

  • Screen State: Hey Google only works when your watch screen is on. Use button press for screen-off activation.


Feature-Specific Issues

When specific features don't work.

  • Smart Home: Ensure devices are set up in Google Home app and your phone's Gemini has access.

  • Fitness: Verify Google Fit or your fitness app is installed and connected to Gemini in phone settings.

  • Messages/Email: Enable Google Workspace extension in Gemini profile Extensions on your phone.

  • Third-Party Apps: Some app integrations require enabling in Gemini Extensions Connected apps.


When Nothing Works

Last resort options if issues persist.

  • Clear Cache: On watch, Settings Apps Google Storage Clear cache.

  • Remove/Re-add Account: Remove your Google account from watch settings, then add it back.

  • Factory Reset: Settings System Reset. You'll need to set up your watch again from scratch.

  • Contact Support: Visit support.google.com for Gemini-specific help or your watch manufacturer for hardware issues.
