Customizing Gemini on WearOS

Gemini on WearOS offers extensive customization options to match your workflow and preferences. From tiles and complications to voice activation and notification settings, you can tailor the experience to how you actually use your watch.

Tiles and Watch Face Setup

Tiles provide quick swipe access to Gemini without opening the full app. Complications let you launch Gemini directly from your watch face.

  • Adding a Gemini Tile: Long press your watch face, swipe to the tiles section, tap Add tile and select Gemini. You can add multiple tiles with different functions like one for smart home and another for productivity.

  • Watch Face Complications: Choose a watch face that supports complications, then add Gemini as an option. Tap the complication to launch Gemini instantly or display status information.

  • Tile Positioning: Arrange your Gemini tiles in order of frequency. Put your most-used tile closest to the watch face for fastest access.

Voice Activation Settings

Configure how you trigger and interact with Gemini using voice commands.

  • Activation Methods: Choose from Hey Google, crown button press, complication tap, or app icon. Go to Settings Google Voice to configure your preferred method.

  • Response Preferences: Set whether Gemini responds with voice only, text only, or both. Voice-only works well when you can't look at your watch; text-only is better in quiet environments.

  • Voice Training: Improve recognition accuracy by going to Settings Google Voice Match and retraining your voice model, especially useful if Gemini struggles with your accent.

  • Language Settings: Configure primary and secondary languages in Settings Google Languages for multilingual interactions.

Quick Commands and Shortcuts

Create shortcuts for commands you use frequently to save time and reduce repetitive voice input.

  • Frequently Used Commands: Set up shortcuts for common requests like What's the weather, Start my commute, or Turn off the lights. Access these through the Gemini tile or app.

  • Custom Phrases: Create personalized trigger phrases that execute multi-step commands. For example, Good morning could check weather, read calendar, and start your coffee maker.

  • Context-Aware Shortcuts: Configure shortcuts that adapt based on time or location. Morning shortcuts might focus on commute info while evening ones focus on relaxation routines.

Notification and Response Settings

Control how Gemini notifications appear and how responses display on your watch.

  • Notification Filters: Go to Settings Apps Gemini Notifications to configure which alerts appear on your watch versus staying on your phone only.

  • Quiet Hours: Set do-not-disturb periods when Gemini notifications are silenced. Access this through Settings Do Not Disturb or configure specific quiet hours for Gemini alone.

  • Text Size and Theme: Adjust Gemini response readability in Settings Display Font size. Choose dark or light themes to match your watch face.

  • Response Length: Configure whether Gemini provides brief summaries or detailed responses. Brief mode works better for quick glances while detailed mode suits complex queries.

App Integration and Permissions

Control how Gemini interacts with other apps on your watch and phone.

  • Default Apps: Set which apps Gemini uses for messaging, navigation, and music. Go to Settings Apps Default apps to configure preferences.

  • Permission Management: Review and adjust what data Gemini can access in Settings Apps Gemini Permissions. Control access to location, calendar, contacts, and health data.

  • Integration Depth: Enable or disable deep integration with specific apps. Some users prefer Gemini to have full access for seamless automation; others prefer limited access for privacy.

Performance and Battery

Optimize Gemini settings to balance functionality with battery life.

  • Battery Management: Reduce Gemini background activity in Settings Apps Gemini Battery if you notice significant drain. This may slow response times slightly.

  • Network Preferences: Configure whether Gemini uses WiFi only, LTE only, or both in Settings Connectivity. WiFi uses less battery but requires connection to your phone or network.

  • Cache Settings: Clear Gemini cache periodically in Settings Apps Gemini Storage Clear cache to free up watch storage without losing your preferences.
