How to Reset OnePlus Watch 2
There are two types of resets for the OnePlus Watch 2: a soft reset (restart) and a factory reset (hard reset). Here's when and how to perform each.
Soft Reset (Restart)
A soft reset simply restarts your watch without deleting any data. Use this for minor glitches.
Method 1: Using Buttons
- Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds
- Wait for the watch to turn off completely
- Press the power button again to turn it back on
Method 2: Through Settings
- Open Settings on your watch
- Navigate to System
- Tap Restart
- Confirm the restart
When to Soft Reset
Try a soft reset first for frozen screens, slow performance, or minor glitches. It only takes a minute and often fixes common issues without losing any data.
Factory Reset (Hard Reset)
A factory reset erases all data and restores the watch to its original state. Use this for:
- Preparing to sell or give away your watch
- Fixing persistent software issues
- Starting fresh after major problems
Before Factory Reset
- Backup Important Data: Sync with the OnePlus Health app to preserve health and fitness data.
- Unpair from Your Phone: Unpair if possible to ensure clean removal from your account.
- Charge to 50%: Ensure sufficient battery to complete the reset process without interruption.
Method 1: Through Watch Settings
- Open Settings on your watch
- Navigate to System
- Scroll down to Disconnect & reset
- Tap Factory reset
- Confirm by selecting Done or checkmark
Method 2: Through OnePlus Health App
- Open the OnePlus Health app on your phone
- Go to Device settings
- Select your OnePlus Watch 2
- Tap Unpair device
- Confirm the unpair action
Method 3: Hardware Reset (If Unresponsive)
- Press and hold both buttons simultaneously
- Keep holding for 15-20 seconds
- Release when the OnePlus logo appears
- Follow on-screen prompts to complete reset
Hardware Reset
Use the hardware reset method only if your watch is completely frozen and unresponsive. This is your last resort when the watch won't respond to normal button presses or touch input.
After Factory Reset
- Set up as new or restore from backup
- Pair with your phone using the OnePlus Health app
- Update to the latest software version
- Reconfigure your settings and preferences
- Reinstall apps from Google Play Store
What Gets Erased
A factory reset removes all personal data and customizations.
- All Downloaded Apps: Any apps you installed from Play Store will be removed.
- Personal Data and Settings: All your preferences and configurations are deleted.
- Watch Faces and Customizations: Custom watch faces and personalization settings are erased.
- Health and Fitness Data: All locally stored health data is removed (cloud backup persists).
- Wi-Fi Networks and Passwords: All saved network credentials are deleted.
- Paired Bluetooth Devices: All Bluetooth pairings except the phone connection are removed.
What's Preserved
The watch returns to factory condition but retains core system elements.
- WearOS System Software: The operating system remains at its current version.
- Factory Pre-Installed Apps: Built-in apps that came with the watch are preserved.
- Hardware Specifications: Physical components and capabilities remain unchanged.
- Warranty Status: Factory reset does not affect your warranty coverage.
Data Recovery
Health and fitness data synced to OnePlus Health cloud can be restored after reset. However, locally-only data and app-specific information cannot be recovered, so sync before resetting.
