Galaxy Watch Ultra WhatsApp Notification Spam

If your Galaxy Watch Ultra keeps repeating the same WhatsApp notification or you're getting duplicate alerts, this is a known bug that Samsung has acknowledged but not fully resolved.

Understanding the Bug

WhatsApp notifications may repeat, duplicate, or spam your watch due to syncing issues between the watch and phone apps.

  • Duplicate Alerts: Same message notification appearing multiple times
  • Delayed Sync Flood: A week's worth of messages syncing all at once
  • Group Message Issues: Group chats particularly prone to notification spam
  • Battery Drain: Constant notifications significantly drain battery

Solution 1: Update WhatsApp on Watch

WhatsApp released a WearOS update specifically addressing notification issues.

  1. Open Play Store on your watch
  2. Search for WhatsApp
  3. If an update is available, install it
  4. Restart your watch after updating

Solution 2: Reinstall WhatsApp on Watch

A fresh installation often resolves persistent notification bugs.

  1. On your watch, go to Settings Apps WhatsApp
  2. Select Uninstall
  3. Restart your watch
  4. Open Play Store and reinstall WhatsApp
  5. Log in and configure notifications fresh

Solution 3: Configure Notification Settings

Fine-tune WhatsApp notification categories.

On your watch:

  1. Go to Settings Apps WhatsApp Notifications
  2. Review each notification category
  3. Disable categories you don't need (like group notifications)
  4. Ensure "Allow notifications" is properly configured

On your phone:

  1. Open Galaxy Wearable app
  2. Go to Watch settings Notifications
  3. Find WhatsApp and configure sync settings
  4. Try disabling then re-enabling WhatsApp notifications

Solution 4: Remove WhatsApp from Watch Entirely

If notifications are unbearable, you can still reply from notifications without the watch app.

  1. Uninstall WhatsApp from your watch
  2. Keep WhatsApp notifications enabled in Galaxy Wearable
  3. You'll still receive notifications on your watch
  4. You can reply to incoming messages, but can't start new chats

Root Cause: Message Sync Backlog

Some users report the spam occurs after not using WhatsApp on the watch for a while.

  • Sync Backlog: Multiple days of messages sync simultaneously
  • Group Messages: Groups with high activity cause the most spam
  • Fix: Open WhatsApp on watch regularly to prevent backlog buildup

Disable Specific Group Notifications

If one group is causing the spam:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone
  2. Open the problematic group chat
  3. Tap the group name at the top
  4. Select Mute notifications
  5. This stops the group from spamming your watch

When Nothing Works

If the issue persists after all solutions:

  1. Report to Samsung: Submit feedback via Galaxy Wearable Support
  2. WhatsApp Feedback: Report in WhatsApp Settings Help Contact Us
  3. Monitor Updates: Keep both apps updated as fixes continue to roll out
