What's New in Galaxy Watch 8

The Galaxy Watch 8 brings several first-of-their-kind features including Antioxidant Index monitoring, Wear OS 6, Google Gemini AI, a new cushion design, and FDA-authorized sleep apnea detection.

Revolutionary Health Features

The most significant additions are in health monitoring.

  • Antioxidant Index: World-first smartwatch feature measuring carotenoid levels using optical sensors. Provides insights into antioxidant status and metabolic health.

  • Sleep Apnea Detection: FDA-authorized monitoring for adults 22 and older. Detects signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea during overnight tracking.

  • AI Energy Score: Comprehensive daily readiness score combining sleep quality, activity levels, heart rate variability, and new biometric data.

New Design

Samsung completely redesigned the watch form factor.

  • Cushion Shape: New "squircle" design blending circular and square elements. A major departure from traditional smartwatch aesthetics.

  • 11% Thinner: 8.6mm thickness improves comfort during all-day wear.

  • Dynamic Lug System: New band attachment mechanism with tool-free swapping. Note: Previous Galaxy Watch bands are not compatible.

Platform Updates

The software brings major improvements.

  • Wear OS 6: First smartwatch to launch with Google's latest platform, featuring improved performance and battery management.

  • Google Gemini AI: Advanced AI assistant with natural language processing, smart notifications, and contextual suggestions.

  • One UI 8 Watch: Samsung's updated interface with enhanced customization and Galaxy ecosystem integration.

Hardware Improvements

Technical upgrades under the hood.

  • 32GB Storage: Double the previous generation for more apps, music, and offline content.

  • Exynos W1000 Processor: 3nm chip with improved power efficiency (same as Galaxy Watch 7 but with firmware optimizations).

  • 2GB RAM: LPDDR5 memory for smooth multitasking.

What Stayed the Same

Core technology remains consistent.

  • Same BioActive sensor suite (heart rate, ECG, blood pressure, body composition)
  • Same Bluetooth 5.3 and WiFi connectivity
  • Same GPS/GLONASS/Galileo/BeiDou support
  • Same 5ATM + IP68 water resistance
