Galaxy Watch 8 No Sound

Sound issues on the Galaxy Watch 8 typically stem from volume settings, Do Not Disturb mode, or Bluetooth audio routing. This guide covers common fixes from simple settings to hardware diagnostics.

Quick Checks

Before detailed troubleshooting, verify these basics:

  • Volume Level: Press the side button and check the volume indicator
  • Sound Mode: Ensure the watch isn't set to Mute or Vibrate only
  • Do Not Disturb: Check if the moon icon is active in quick settings

Check Volume and Sound Settings

Start by verifying the watch's sound configuration.

  1. Open Settings on the watch
  2. Navigate to Sound and vibration
  3. Verify Sound mode is set to Sound
  4. Check that Volume is set above 50%
  5. Tap Notification sound and select a tone to test speaker output

Disable Do Not Disturb

DND mode silences all sounds and is a common cause of audio issues.

  1. Swipe down from the watch face to access quick settings
  2. Look for the moon icon (DND indicator)
  3. Tap to disable if active
  4. Also check Settings Modes and Routines for scheduled DND

Check Bluetooth Audio Routing

Audio may be routing to connected Bluetooth devices instead of the watch speaker.

  • Disconnect any Bluetooth headphones or earbuds from the watch
  • Open Settings Connections Bluetooth
  • Check for connected audio devices and disconnect temporarily
  • Test watch speaker with Bluetooth audio devices disconnected

Test Different Audio Types

Verify which audio types work to isolate the problem.

  • Notification Sounds: Send yourself a test message
  • Timer/Alarm: Set a short timer to test alarm audio
  • Voice Assistant: Say Hey Google to test speaker and microphone
  • System Sounds: Enable Touch sounds in settings and tap the screen

Force Restart

A restart can resolve temporary software audio glitches.

  1. Press and hold the power button for 10+ seconds
  2. Wait for the Samsung logo to appear
  3. Let the watch fully restart
  4. Test audio after restart completes

Clear Speaker Debris

Physical obstructions can block sound output.

  • Visually inspect the speaker grille for debris
  • Use a soft brush to gently clean the speaker area
  • Avoid using compressed air which may damage internal components
  • If water-exposed, allow 24-48 hours of drying before testing

Reset Sound Settings

If individual settings appear correct but audio still fails, reset all sound settings.

  1. Open Settings Sound and vibration
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Reset sound settings (if available)
  3. Alternatively, go to Settings General Reset
  4. Select Reset settings to restore defaults without losing data

Hardware Testing

If software fixes don't work, test for hardware issues.

  • Boot in Safe Mode: Hold power button, then press and hold Power off to access safe mode. Test audio without third-party apps.

  • Maximum Volume Test: Briefly test at maximum volume with different audio types (notifications, alarms, media).

  • Physical Damage: Inspect the speaker area for cracks or visible damage.

When to Contact Support

Contact Samsung Support if:

  • No audio output after all troubleshooting steps
  • Crackling or distorted sound indicates speaker damage
  • Audio works intermittently despite correct settings
  • You're within the 12-month warranty period
