How to Update Samsung Galaxy Watch 5
Regular software updates keep your Galaxy Watch 5 running smoothly with the latest features, security patches, and bug fixes. The watch launched with One UI Watch 4.5 and can be updated to newer versions.
Before Updating
Prepare your watch for a successful update.
- Battery: Charge to at least 50% (or connect to charger during update)
- Connection: Ensure watch is connected to phone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
- Storage: At least 1GB of free space recommended
- Time: Allow 20-30 minutes for download and installation
Check for Updates on Watch
Update directly from your watch settings.
- Open

- Tap Download and install
- If an update is available, tap Download
- Wait for download to complete
- Tap Install when prompted
- Watch will restart automatically (10-15 minutes)
Keep the watch on its charger during installation to prevent interruption.

Update through the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected phone.

Types of Updates
The watch receives different types of software updates.
- Major System Updates: One UI Watch version updates (1-2 per year), large file size (500MB-1GB+), include new features and interface changes
- Monthly Security Patches: Security fixes and small bug fixes (50-200MB), released monthly
- App Updates: Individual app improvements through
Galaxy Store, no system restart required
Troubleshooting Update Issues
If updates fail to download or install, try these solutions.
Update Won't Download:
- Ensure stable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection
- Free up storage:
SettingsStorageDelete unused apps - Restart both watch and phone
- Try again on a different Wi-Fi network
Update Stuck During Installation:
- Wait at least 30 minutes before taking action
- If truly stuck, force restart by holding both buttons for 7-10 seconds
- Attempt update again after restart
Update Not Available:
- Updates roll out regionally over several days or weeks
- Carrier-locked watches may receive updates later
- Check back periodically
Best Practice
Update overnight by enabling automatic updates and auto-install. Place your watch on the charger before bed, and updates will install while you sleep.
