How to Navigate with Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is built for outdoor navigation with multi-band GPS, GPX route import, and the Track Back safety feature.

Enable GPS

  1. Swipe down from watch face
  2. Tap Settings Location
  3. Enable Location services
  4. Set accuracy to High accuracy for multi-band GPS

Move to an open area and wait 30-60 seconds for initial satellite lock. A green GPS icon indicates active lock.

Turn-by-Turn Navigation

Using GPX Routes:

  1. Import route via Samsung Health (see GPX Import Guide)
  2. On watch, open Samsung Health Exercise
  3. Select activity type, then tap Routes
  4. Select your imported route
  5. Tap Start to begin navigation

During navigation: Map shows your position, vibration alerts before turns, distance markers show progress.

Track Back

Automatic path recording for returning to start:

  1. Start any outdoor workout
  2. When ready to return, swipe to workout controls
  3. Tap Track Back
  4. Follow breadcrumb trail back to start

No pre-planning needed—Track Back runs automatically as a safety feature.

Compass

  1. Open Compass app or widget
  2. Calibrate by moving watch in figure-8 pattern
  3. Watch vibrates when calibration completes
  4. Shows cardinal directions and bearing degrees

Recalibrate if direction seems inaccurate after traveling or near magnetic interference.

Multi-Band GPS Benefits

Uses L1 + L5 frequencies for:

  • 5-10m accuracy (vs 15-30m standard GPS)
  • Better positioning under tree cover
  • Improved accuracy in urban canyons
  • Faster satellite acquisition

Battery impact: 10-15 hours with multi-band GPS, 20+ hours with standard GPS.

Offline Navigation

GPS works independently—no phone or cellular needed:

  • Routes stored locally after import
  • Multi-band GPS operates offline
  • Full navigation features available
  • Import routes before leaving Wi-Fi
