What Phones Is Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Compatible With?

The Galaxy Watch 4 works with any Android phone running Android 6.0 or higher. It is not compatible with iPhone—if you use iOS, you'll need to choose an Apple Watch instead.

Minimum Requirements

You need an Android phone and a few essential apps.

  • Operating System: Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or newer, including Android 7 through 15

  • Required Apps: Galaxy Wearable from Google Play Store, Samsung Health for fitness features, and Google and Samsung accounts

  • RAM: At least 1.5GB of RAM on your phone

Samsung Galaxy Phones (Best Experience)

Samsung phones running One UI 3.1+ provide the full feature set with enhanced integration including ECG monitoring (regional availability), blood pressure monitoring (regional availability), advanced body composition analysis, SmartThings smart home integration, Galaxy Buds seamless pairing, Quick Share file transfers, and Bixby Routines automation.

  • Compatible Series: Galaxy S21 and newer, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 3 and newer, Galaxy A52 and newer with One UI 3.1+.

Non-Samsung Android Phones

Google Pixel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Motorola, and other Android phones work with all core features.

  • What Works: Bluetooth pairing and connectivity, notification syncing, phone calls and message replies, health and fitness tracking including body composition, GPS tracking, Samsung Pay (NFC and MST), Google services (Maps, Assistant, Play Store), and all third-party apps.

  • Limited Features: ECG and blood pressure may require a Samsung phone depending on region. Some SmartThings and Bixby Routines features may be restricted.

iPhone Not Compatible

The Galaxy Watch 4 does not work with iPhone.

  • No iOS version of Galaxy Wearable exists
  • Apple restricts WearOS device pairing on iOS
  • iPhone users should choose Apple Watch for full smartwatch functionality

LTE vs Bluetooth Models

LTE models can work independently when away from your phone, but require carrier support.

  • Bluetooth Models: Require phone within 30 feet for full functionality. Can maintain connection through shared WiFi when Bluetooth is out of range.

  • LTE Models: Make calls and use data without phone nearby. Requires carrier plan ($10-15/month) from Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or US Cellular. Uses same phone number as your phone.
