How to Connect Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 to Your Phone

The Galaxy Watch 4 connects to Android phones through the Galaxy Wearable app. You'll need an Android phone running Android 6.0 or higher—the watch does not support iPhone.

What You Need

Gather these before starting the connection process.

  • Android phone with Android 6.0+ (Samsung Galaxy phones offer the best experience)
  • Galaxy Wearable app from Google Play Store
  • Samsung Account and Google Account for full functionality
  • Bluetooth enabled on your phone
  • Watch charged to at least 30%

Connection Steps

The pairing process takes a few minutes and guides you through setup.

  1. Download and open Galaxy Wearable from the Play Store
  2. Turn on your watch by pressing and holding the Home button
  3. Tap Start in the app to begin scanning for your watch
  4. Select Galaxy Watch4 from the device list
  5. Verify the pairing code matches on both devices and tap Confirm
  6. Sign in to your Samsung Account and Google Account when prompted
  7. Grant all requested permissions for notifications, health data, and location
  8. Complete setup by choosing your preferences and installing recommended apps

What Gets Synced

Once connected, your watch and phone share information automatically.

  • Notifications: Messages, emails, and app alerts appear on your wrist
  • Calendar: Events and reminders sync from your phone
  • Contacts: Access your phone contacts for calls and messages
  • Health Data: Workouts and health metrics sync to Samsung Health
  • Media Controls: Control music playback on your phone

Connection Range

The watch maintains connection through Bluetooth with backup options when out of range.

  • Bluetooth Range: Up to 30 feet (10 meters) in open space

  • Wi-Fi Backup: When Bluetooth disconnects, the watch can sync through the same WiFi network

  • LTE Models: Can operate independently using cellular connection when away from both phone and WiFi

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

If pairing fails or the connection drops frequently, try these solutions.

  • Restart Both Devices: Power cycle your watch and phone, then try again.

  • Check Previous Pairing: If the watch was previously used, factory reset it before pairing with a new phone.

  • Disable Battery Optimization: Go to your phone's settings and exclude Galaxy Wearable from battery optimization.

  • Update Software: Ensure both the app and watch firmware are current.
