Does Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Have ECG

Yes, the Galaxy Watch 4 has FDA-cleared ECG functionality for detecting atrial fibrillation and monitoring heart rhythm. Availability varies by region and requires a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone.

What ECG Detects

  • Normal Sinus Rhythm: Regular, healthy heart rhythm
  • Atrial Fibrillation (AFib): Irregular heart rhythm that may require medical attention
  • Inconclusive: When measurement quality isn't sufficient for classification

Medical Clearances: FDA cleared (US), CE marked (EU), MFDS approved (South Korea)

How ECG Works

The ECG uses electrodes in the watch case (wrist contact) and buttons (finger contact) to complete an electrical circuit and capture a 30-second waveform using Samsung's BioActive sensor technology.

  • To Take an ECG: Open Samsung Health Monitor app on watch, select ECG, rest arm on flat surface, place finger on top button, hold still for 30 seconds, and view results.

Requirements

  • Watch: Galaxy Watch 4 or 4 Classic
  • Phone: Must be Samsung Galaxy phone with One UI 3.1+ (not compatible with other Android phones or iPhone)
  • App: Samsung Health Monitor from Galaxy Store
  • Region: Phone must be set to approved region (US, EU, UK, Canada, Australia, others)

Regional Availability

Available: US, EU, UK, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Singapore, UAE, Hong Kong

Not Available: India, China, most of Africa, most of South America (pending regulatory approval)

Limitations

ECG cannot detect heart attacks, diagnose all heart conditions, or replace doctor visits. It's a screening tool for AFib detection only. May produce false positives/negatives, and is less accurate during exercise or stress.
